Above my lip, there is an area that is red and slightly bumpy. I KNOW a zit is just waaaiiting to sprout. How can I stop it dead in it's tracks?

I have a zit on the back of my neck and I want to know how I can pop it. I have tried to with my hands but I can not see back there. I can only feel it and it is annoying the hell out of me.
