There is something called Cystic Acne. It’s caused by body chemistry, specifically your androgen hormone levels. A dermatologist can give you prescription ointments to clear it up. Beg them for samples though because the stuff costs $70 a tube. Sometimes OTC acne gels will help. (Look for the highest percentage of salicytic acid you can find.) There’s a Neutrogenia gel that works well available in drugstores & Walmart has their own generic formulation of it for a few $.
Also there’s a blue bar soap made by Neutrogena for men available in the shaving section at drugstore that will help keep new ones from forming. The "girls" variety of that soap doesn’t work as well.
For bad acne or cysts sometimes antibiotics are given such as doxycycline which works well in eradicating the underlying bacteria. If you have the cyst surgically removed its usually a simple procedure. Have had several lanced or removed. Only once did it require stitches and it was just a few stitches, didn’t hurt and healed quickly.
Meanwhile don’t worry about it. Get to the drugstore and find something to help you through till your appt. And don’t waste your time with regular drs, go to a dermatologist.
I had the same problem. Certainly, a clogged pore can lead to a cyst, and then there’s nothing for it but to have the damn thing cut out by a surgeon.
Are you sure it’s a cyst and not a Keloid? I can’t really tell from your yahoo Avatar but it looks as if you have some ethnic background. People with darker pigmentation (Hispanics, Asians, blacks) tend to be more susceptible to keloids.
If it’s a keloid is may be very hard to get rid of them regardless of the different types of treatment. The good thing is that it’s not cancerous.
Yes, a pimple CAN lead to a cyst, but I do have a question….
Have you ever had chicken pox, or are you Black, Hispanic, or any combination of the two?
The reason I ask is about 14 years ago I contracted the pox. About 4 or 5 years after I recovered I had a cyst-like thing come up on my back and it too grew larger and eventually very sore. I won’t gross you out with the details, but suffice it to say that when I finally got rid of it, my dermatologist was amazed and the size and how I excized the cyst.
As for your race, I do know that darker complexions very often fall victim to things called keloids, which are damned near enough to be cystic in nature.
sebaceous cyst is an infected oil gland. Excising, or cutting them out is a common procedure.
