Could my Proactiv be the cause of my extremely oily skin?
I ѕtаrtеd using thе 3-step system οf Proactiv аbουt a year аnd a half ago, mу skin wаѕ lovely fοr аbουt 9 months, thеn іt ѕtаrtеd getting very dry. Aftеr a whіlе οf being dry, іt ѕtаrtеd getting oily. Nοt јυѕt a shine here, a sheen thеrе, totally soaking oily, аll over mу forehead, nose, chin…everywhere! I still υѕе thе 3-step system wіth benzoyl peroxide, whісh іѕ a drying ingredient thаt kіllѕ bacteria. I gеt breakouts аlmοѕt еνеrу day under mу nose аnd chin, аnd cystic pimples, whісh іѕ acne thаt forms under thе skin іn large lumps thаt іѕ caused bу thе pore being clogged wіth oil аnd rupturing. Iѕ Proactiv drying out mу skin ѕο much thаt іtѕ producing extra oil? Am I growing immune tο Proactiv? Hеlр!

use oxy acne wash or go see the dermatoligist
YES, I used proactive and I found that it gave me more acne and oily skin and never worked, use neutrogena or clean and clear
Yep. I’ve never used Proactiv, but if it overdried your skin then your body will have naturally changed over time to fight that by producing extra oil. I just bought a Neutrogena toner, face wash and mosterizer…. no real need to buy a kit and you can get better quality or more specific if you buy them seperatley…
Different acne treatments work best for different types of skin. I have very oily skin myself, and I use Murad instead of Proactiv. If Proactiv isn’t working for you after such a long time, try experimenting with other anti-acne products.
yes, that doesn’t work to me.
Yes, try an oil free moisturizer. (Proactive has a moisturizer.) For me proactive dryed my face out REALLY BAD and then I quit using it but now I still have oily skin but it’s getting alot better now that I moisturize once or twice a day.
You could try these home and health food items. (This is what I do now.)
Aloe vera gel mixed with 2 drops of tea tree essential oil works really well and has been shown in studys to improve acne. Doing scrubs is not good for acne at all because it irritates acne so I use warm oatmeal with a little bit of honey to exfoliate which is more gently. A french "green" clay mask works very well also. It removes impurities from deep within and your acne may get worse before it gets better using the french clay. You should try an organic cleanser. (You can get them at a health food store.) I use a herbal astringent recipe from "The herbal body book" by Stephanie Tourles which you can get cheap on half.com. Works really good and is so soothing. Use a oil free moisturizer at might on your face, neck and chest. Try taking vitamins A, E, D, C, Bcomplex (or B5) vitamin & Zinc. Also eat healthy lean meats, fresh fruits and vegtables. Boxed foods and fast food will make it so much worse! Hope this helps!!
sounds like your skin just stopped reacting to it after the 1st 9 months. now your skin is sort of rebelling… your skin is rejecting the Proactiv & your Sebacious glands are going crazy!!!…
you should see a dermatoligist asap. they can get you on a regimine that will counteract what’s going on now.
Yeah,in my opinion it makes your skin very oily afterward-it shows on the ad on T.V.—if you have really bad acne problems try a powder foundation afterward so your skin won’t look so oily—also in my opinion there is this daily facial wash Cetaphil it think it works by your face feeling clean & fresh without leaving it tight or oily(it smells really great too!)…anywho I hope this helps.
Throw the stuff away–QUICK! I was ordering that for my son who was so broke out with the big nasty cystic pustules–it made them WORSE!!! That proactiv stuff is a joke. I did a test on myself(I have perfect clear skinand never have breakouts even as a teen) and it broke me out! I ended up taking my son to a dermatologist and he had to undergo treatment with an oral pill for about 1 year and his skin is beautiful now. he still has some redness from where the skin was irrtated for so long and several "pock" marks but the dermatologist assured me those would smooth out with time that they would not leave scars. PLEASE seek a dermatologist. i have referrred several of his friends to seek the same help and they all have had to same results from the oral pill–CLEAR BEAUTIFUL skin! The pill does have side efects for both men and women and you do have to get your blood checked monthly to make sure certain levels are ok. as stated I know of 5 people who have taken pill with wonderful results. Research and talk to your parents and seek professional advice from a dermatologist in your area. the name of the med is Accutane.
There is no one product or system since we are all individuals. I would be glad to answer questions or help you. Actually oily skin is dry. Products that contain drying agents, like alcohol, dry the skin each time they are applied. The dry cells then must ask the brain for more oil. It becomes a continuous cycle.
Here’s a suggestions: http://www.natural-prosperity.com/intelligence_5step.html – be glad to help you sample product, if you’re interested.
Here’s an article about how I helped my granddaughter who was going to the UM Dermatology Dept. After a few visits with no results she finally let me help her – http://www.natural-prosperity.com/kathy.skin.pdf
Best to you and your skin!
i have used proactiv, and the cream you put on last, made my skin extremely oily after a long period of use. Try cutting that out and putting clean and clear benzoyl peroxide, my boyfriend calls me the clean and clear queen, always solves my oilliness
I had also tried using ProActive for my acne & it had left my face red & dry–i think this is due to the amount of alcohol in the product. So I stopped & went to Sephora & picked up one of their acne product called DDF. I’ve been using it for about a month now & I’ve seen a huge improvement! The acne kit cost about $30-40. You can always stop by their store to pick up a sample & see how you like it. Hope this helps!
