My cat has chin acne with sores. How long will it take to heal?
Shе′s wаѕ рυt οn antibiotics fοr a week bυt thеу didn’t hеlр. Sο thе vet рυt hеr οn ѕοmе heavyduty antibiotics. Shе wаѕ οn thеm fοr a week (аnd thеу seemed tο hеlр a lіttlе). Thе vet рυt hеr οn thеm fοr another 2 weeks. I’ve bееn putting dry food out fοr hеr fοr thе last two days (ѕhе normally јυѕt eats wet food, bυt gets hungry during thе day) аnd hеr chin seems tο hаνе gotten worse again. I сlеаn hеr chin wіth proxide аѕ per thе vet οn a daily basis. Bυt іt seems tο bе taking аn аwfυllу long time tο heal up. Iѕ thіѕ normal іn cats fοr іt tο take ѕο long fοr a skin problem tο clear up? Mу cat іѕ starting tο hаtе mе bесаυѕе οf аll thе cleaning. Anу hints οr tips?

not much you can do
One thing to do is avoid keeping her water and food in plastic bowls. Also try using Phisoderm to clean her chin – it is gentle but cleans well – I have used this on my cat with success.
Good luck.
If you go to http://www.littlebigcat.com Dr. Jean Hovfe has an article titled "Feline Acne" in her article library. I am sure there will be information and reassurance for you there.
The use of plastic feeding and water dishes is strongly connected to the development of this condition. Try using glass bowls.
I don’t have an official answer for you, since I’ve also been battling with my cat’s acne (on a smaller scale, though). But I just wanted to add a couple things:
Make sure she’s not eating out of any plastic bowls, that’s the main cause of acne. I know your vet probably already told you this, but I just wanted to make sure.
And I wouldn’t use peroxide at all, actually. I’ve read online that (as far as humans) it does more harm than good. When you see it bubbling and such, it’s actually breaking down very delicate tissue that’s used in the process of healing, so it actually takes longer to heal. That actually might be the problem, talk to your vet about using something else besides that.
Also, make sure not to use rubbing alcohol, as it is not good for kitties!
Good luck!
Do you feed you cat in plastic bowls? If you do, that could be the cause. My cat had the same problem. The plastic traps oils from the food and the cat’s fur, and they stay there even after cleaning because the plastic is porous. Try using metal or glass bowls. These are easier to clean. As far as the medication, keep using it because the vet said to, but acne should clear up on it’s own if you replace the bowls. My cat took about a week once she switched bowls. I hope this helps!
This type of problem can take awhile to clear up. Make sure you are being consistent with what your veterinarian is advising you todo. Also begin using glass bowls as in many cases feline acne is to to an allrgic reaction to plastics. Good luck!
