What prescription medicine is best to treat acne?
I’m 32 аnd still struggle wіth breakouts. Aѕ I gеt older, though, mу breakouts occur around mу mouth, chin, jawline, аnd neck. I wουld lіkе a topical treatment thаt’s nοt over-thе-counter (thеу don’t work!) аnd thаt іѕ safe. (I’ve heard horror ѕtοrіеѕ οf people committing suicide аftеr taking something fοr acne!)
Yeah, accutane IS the best. These stories of people committing suicide after taking it probably have to do with the acne itself. Consider that people who are given accutane have cystic acne. You know, that really horrible kind that protrudes and leaves holes?? Anyway, doctors don’t prescribe the drug unless you’re unsuccessfully tried many, many drugs. So, these individuals (usually teens) have been walking around with this kind of acne for a long time. When they finally get prescribed accutane, the drug makes the acne get worse for about 3 weeks before it gets markedly better. So, all in combination, probably a nice recipe for depression. Being a teenager, teased incesantly about their acne, trying so many different medicaitons that just don’t work, and then trying one that is suppose to work, which initially doesn’t. Yeah, I’d be depressed too.
There are many, many types of treatments. If one doesn’t work, you try another. Tetracycline usually works for uncomplicated acne. Topical stuff?? I like Stievamyacin. If you have oily skin, don’t have cystic acne, but little one and more than you’d like, AND are concerned about aging, Stievamycin is a good choice. I like that it contains tretonin that takes care of those fine lines.

I’m currently on some bullshit antibiotics and cream ($55/health insurance) and it hasn’t done a damn thing. A couple years ago I ordered that stuff from the TV that Jessica Simpson and everyone else promotes…forgot the name….but that worked better than the bullshit the doctor gave me.

a doctor can give you a prescription for anti biotics to treat the acne . they have other much more powerfull drugs that can be put on the skin as well.
try washing with antibacterail soap. you can get this in dishwashing liquid that is ment for hands as well. if you get a pimple put some of that full strength on the spot and leave it on over night. wash with the soap 4 or 5 times a day all month long
I’ve have heard the best acne treatment even for adults is Proavtiv. I think its a topical treatment but I’m not sure. It works really great when you follow the directions.
The medication that you are referring to is called Accutane. It is very potent, and has to be monitored by a Dr. It is usually used as a LAST resort, severe cystic acne. I doubt that you need to worry. That side effect is EXTREMELY rare. I never had acne until I was in my late twenties, known as "Adult Acne". You need to go to a Dermatologist, for every ones skin needs to be diagnosed accordingly. There are many SAFE treatments and medications that a good dermatologist can prescribe. Try not to stress, that can cause breakouts to flare-up.You are not alone, Adult acne is very common.
you should try proactive i know you’ve seen commercials on TV and said well that costs too much but in reality it is really worth it but there is also a acne kit i saw at the drug store rite aid the other day and it has the same three items as proactive the cleanser,toner,and repairing lotion but i don’t know exactly what the name is but it comes in like a clear package with apricots all over it and there is three bottles inside that i listed above i have never tried it but it could work as good as proactive for half the price tell you what i will write myself a note and check it out and if your question is still posted tomorrow i will have the name of the product for you to try because i have a good feeling about it so i will get back to you later on today or tomorrow good luck!
The dr. gave daughter Benzaclin for hers. It seems to work good. Its a cream that you put directly on your skin.
Accutane is certainly the king of prescription acne treatments, however it does have severe side effect. consult your doctor. Vitamin B5 treatment is apparently close to accutane but without the harsh side-effects and is available without prescription.
